postcards from nowhere

greetings!

today, a quote from Robert Louis Stevenson:

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.

Ever read the Frog and Toad children's books? My favorite story illustrates this concept brilliantly. Frog wants a garden like Toad's, so Toad helps him prepare the soil and plant the seeds. Then Frog sits there watching the earth, waiting expectantly and impatiently for the seeds to sprout. He tries a bunch of tricks to convince them - reading them stories, playing them music, and eventually yelling at them to hurry up and grow.

Of course, Toad (and every child listening to the story) knows that seeds cannot be coerced to sprout. The joke's on Frog. There's nothing he can do to speed up Mother Nature.

So as you go about your day, plant the seeds of the qualities that you'd like to see more of in the world. If you have time, maybe give them a little drink of kindness and shine some of your light on them. Then move on. The sprouting is not up to you.

The intention beneath your action has more of an influence on your wellbeing than the apparent outcome. Simply do your best, and then let it go.

and please vote! it matters.

warmly,
karen
