greetings- I'm sending a rather sobering postcard for parents today. I just received an email about a teenage boy who died after inhaling Dust Off. As I always do, I headed over to snopes.com to check its validity before taking it seriously. Turns out it's true. I had NO idea that this sort of thing was going on. Awareness is a parent's best ally, so I want to pass this information along to you. Below is the link to the full story over at snopes. The original email is in the colored box below the heading, and they also include some additional information at the end that I found to be quite helpful. I think it's definitely worth any parent's time to read this, and then to discuss it with their child when the time is right. At our house, that will be TONIGHT. In two weeks, I have one child entering high school, and the other entering middle school. Uncharted territory for both. The days when my physical presence may have acted as a shelter and protection from dangerous things are mostly gone. But I can still share stories like this with them - stories that make an impression on their hearts and minds. I can equip them with information that will help them to make healthy decisions. I can continue to listen and pay attention to them, and assure them that I believe in their ability to choose wisely, and to learn from their mistakes. And after I've done all that, I can learn to let go of the rest, and cultivate faith. Parenting .... it's not a job. It's an adventure. We are all in this together. Please let me know if you would like any additional information or support. http://www.snopes.com/toxins/dustoff.asp take good care, karen 720 771 8915 www.karenalonge.com | |
